World population will soon peak and decline (doom-mongers wrong again!)

Demographic research shows that by around 2064 the number of people in the world will reach a maximum and start to decline. That’s within the lifetime of our children.
With widespread, sustained declines in family size, the world population will likely peak in 2064 at around 9.7 billion, and then decline to about 8.8 billion by 2100 — about 2 billion lower than some previous estimates, according to a new study by scientists from the University of Washington in Seattle, USA, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
In this figure “SDG” means sustainable development goals such as education and contraception. Note that peak population in 2064 is a conservative estimate – the blue line, top-most of the curved lines.
With faster attainment of social and economic progress, the peak could be yet earlier and lower.
